On February 28, Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) teaching staff, educational assistants (EA), and early childhood educators from all schools across the Board will be participating in professional development in-person, focusing on curriculum implementation with an emphasis on literacy, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and guidance and career education. Below is the format that will be taking place throughout the day for each group:
Elementary
Length: Full day
Topic: Curriculum implementation with an emphasis on literacy and STEM
Entity hosting: TLDSB
Presenter(s)/facilitator(s): School administrators
Description: Teachers and designated early childhood educators will engage in analyzing literacy and numeracy data to group students into small groups and then plan for instruction to meet student needs. Educators will also participate in learning to further integrate STEM into their existing curriculum to foster students’ critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
EAs will participate in a carousel of self directed learning opportunities during the morning, with school-based activities planned for the afternoon.
All staff will also receive Cyber Security Training.
Secondary
Length: Morning
Topic: Curriculum implementation with an emphasis on literacy and STEM

Description: Schools will work with teachers and participate in learning to further integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into their existing curriculum to foster students’ critical thinking, collaboration and creativity. Teachers will learn how STEM skills are transferable to every professional context and where these skills fall in the secondary curriculum.

Description: Schools will work with teaching and guidance teams to emphasize the importance of STEM learning in our schools, and take a closer look at the labour markets in all areas of the Board.
