Dear Families,
Happy February! It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the school year. February is a time for reflection and celebration. Whether it’s Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, or just the daily joys of learning, there’s so much to be thankful for here at Alexandra. I encourage all of our families to stay connected and continue supporting our efforts to make this a wonderful year for our students.
School Updates
1. Safety Reminders: As we continue through the winter months, please remember to send your child to school dressed warmly! Layers, hats, gloves, and boots are recommended for outdoor recess, as we want to ensure every child stays comfortable. Please also check that indoor shoes are still fitting as these are important for wearing in the classroom.
2. Winter Weather and Indoor Recess: Cold weather is a part of living in Canada, but sometimes the weather becomes too cold to go outside at recess. Recently, to be consistent amongst schools in the area, the temperature of -25 (including wind chill) will be the deciding factor. When the temperature is above -25 (factoring in the wind chill), students will be going outside for recess. When the temperature drops below -25, students will be indoors for recess.
3. Attendance Matters: Classes begin at 8:50 am when the bell rings in the morning. We understand that circumstances beyond your control might arise that mean the student is late for school. Please try to have your child at school before 8:50 am so they can begin their day on routine and with their classmates. If your child is going to be late or not at school for the day, please remember to call the school at 705-324-3313 and leave a message before 8:40 a.m. Remember, if your child is late if they are not here at 8:50 a.m.
Provincial Election: February 27, 2025
Alexandra Public School will be a provincial election polling site from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm on February 27, 2025. This means that temporary measures will need to be in place to ensure our student’s safety when the general public is using sections of our school.
The polling station will be using the gym, parking lot, recess door, and change room washrooms. The public will be permitted in these areas of the school BUT not in the rest. Security will be provided to ensure boundaries are maintained.
- Morning Entry: students will be entering from the front door at 8:40 am and proceeding directly to classrooms
- Recess: all recesses will be indoor
- Gym: the gym will be closed to classes on this day
- Portable: Students in the portable will be using the parking lot door to come and go from the school.
- Dismissal: each class will be given one of three doors to be dismissed. More information will be communicated to you by the classroom teacher.
If you have any questions about how this day will operate ensuring safety for all our students, please contact your child’s teacher or call the school office.
