Nov. 29 – Dec. 3/21 Friday RoundUp

Hey Alexandra Royals Families!

Here is what happened in our school this week!!

The JK/SK class

This week, we celebrated the end of learning about space with a space party. We played space games, enjoyed a space lunch, and space video. This week we are working on using a ten frame to make ten by playing a game called “Race the Teacher”. We are beginning to count the days until winter break by opening a clue each day to tell us a fun winter activity or tradition we can try!

The 1/2 class

Paper Christmas ornaments.

In grade ½ we are having fun spicing up traditional Christmas ornaments by experimenting with the element of line and our knowledge of warm and cool colours.
We have also been exploring how depending what you are measuring, depends on the unit you use to measure it. Ask your child when they might use cm or m to measure.

The 2/3 class

This week, we learned more about measuring perimeter, the important parts of writing a letter and we took a quick course on bus safety. We also learned about Hannukah and a new art technique called ‘pointillism’!

The 4/5 class

This week we started learning about perimeter and area. We’ve put our learning into building a ‘battle plan’ just like in Home Alone. We also designed traps for our battle plan in science that focus on push and pull forces.

The 5/6 class

This week, we started learning about adding and subtracting fractions and using persuasive writing to have the reader donate to a charity. Students participated in the “Marshmallow Challenge” Friday morning to test their Response Inhibition skills. Although it was very tempting to eat the marshmallow right away, students were successful in putting their skills into action!
